Best of the bay, in the category of "Best Barista Continuing Education Class" (whatever the heck that means) goes to... You guessed it! The Blue Bottle Coffee Kiosk in Hayes Valley!

Not that other blow hard Ho palace.

Yeah for us! And don't miss the super sweet photo of BBCC's newest barista Boychick in the latest edition of the Bay Guardian under the heading Best ’70s Anthems and Fake Facial Hair.

It has been a while since we've talked about coffees from other roasters. Some might attribute this fact to Aaron De Lazzer's spanking via the comments section, but we like to say that we just haven't had the time.

But our friend-in-coffee Larry, recently traveled to Amsterdam for a conference and brought us back some booty. And not the kind that you're embarrassed to talk about.

Brandmeester's Koffie, (which apparently means "chief roaster") appears to have several roaster/cafés in the area, although we'll need someone fluent to correct for mistakes.

The discovery of the coffee on the shelves led to a little tussle among the male memebers of the BBCC kiosk as both Oldman and Manboy tried to "out-Euro" each other for dibs on the less than half-pound.

Manboy took the initiative and pulled a couple of sample shots. As you can see, the roast level was dramatically lighter and it showed in the flavor. Bright, pleasantly sweet and dropped off the palate almost immediately. Totally different experience to the west coast style of syrup-y bodied shots. Delightful and unfortunately gone. Didn't even get a chance to take a picture before the last of the dregs were licked from the bottom of the demitasse. How Euro is that.



And the kicker is that Larry didn't even like it. So hey, Dutch readers of the Clown College, what's the deal?

Just in case everybody forgot, today marked six months of the Kiosk in Hayes Valley being open.

It seems like it wasn't all that long ago that that bi-fold door first opened. Oh, how far we've come by standing in the same place.

We need a motto.

"Blue Bottle Coffee: Home of the Gibralter. Accept no imatations"

or,

"Matt Gonzalez likes us better"

or,

"BBCC. Now better with more beard."


This is the part of the post where we again apologize for neglecting the blog.

This is the part of the post where we say everything is moving right along with drinks and staff and summer and coffee.

This is the part where we tell you to stay tuned as there is more to come. Some of it hopefully interesting.

Long days

So we have been having some fairly good luck with the new hours over the last week. Everyone is adapting and our sleepytime baristas are enjoying the half marathon shifts. And having more hours in the day means that we are getting to enjoy each others company more.

And in the name of company camaraderie, Boyman and Cabby headed over to Pizzaiolo the other night to enjoy several beers and their wonderful Salumi plate. If you haven't been, Go!Go!Go!

We've also been serving some not-for-sale coffee varieties as drip at the kiosk and that's been going very well. People like coffee. It's great.

We however, don't like freaky tomatoes with wrinkly proboscises. Yikes!

New hours

Yes, it has been a while.

We're back to tell you that the kiosk has changed up its hours to get the most out of the extended daylight hours. The new hours will have us serving at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. Same great baristas, only nicer cause they aren't working marathon shifts. You will be seeing the return of a very special barista to our ranks. It will be excellent.

There is other wonderful news on the horizon. We aren't going to tell you what it is.

(It's a secret!)
